Created Issue: Open PLS In WMP crashing every time [32012]

Each and every time I try to open a pls file in WMP using this program, I get a Windows message box noting an Application Error titled Open PLS in WMP; I have included a screenshot of the message. The Windows message gives a Codeplex URL at which to report the error and information to report, as follows:

As far as I can tell, WMP never opens; the error message ends the process. My computer is running Windows XP Pro SP3; processor: 2.4-gHz; memory: 3gb. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Open PLS in WMP a couple of times. Pls files open fine in Media Player Classic, RealPlayer, etc., just not with Open PLS in WMP. It would be nice to have this program running again, the way it did until a few months ago. I don't intend to reinstall it, however, until I know it's working properly. I look forward to any posts, replies, fixes, etc. Thanks.

Cheers. I will have a go at doing that then.

But at the moment a couple of us are having a mysterious problem where OpenPLS is not working with some .pls files but work fine in others.

I cannot find what the difference in the files might be. Is this what you meant when you said that it could do with a little refresh, or are there any other problems you know about?

I don't think it because of URL vs IP address, as I have tried with some .pls files from Shoutcast.com and they play fine with URLs.

...but it does not work. I even changed the line ending from Windows (CR+LF) to Unix (LF) as the one that worked had the Unix type, but still no luck.
As the changes I made have not done anything, the answer must lie somewhere else. WMP still says that the file is not found.
It's a mystery :/

Hi Jason,
http://bluemars.org/ opens and plays on my system using OpenPLS!
This is the one that does not: http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/pls/KDFCFM.pls

When I compare the two pls files, bluemars is an ip address while kdfcfm is a url, however when I take out one of the urls with notepad for instance: http://4553.live.streamtheworld.com:3690/KDFCFMCMP3 and load it in wmp, it plays.

This indicates to me that OpenPLS is not parsing this pls correctly for wmp. What do you think?

Correct.

If you know how to use Visual Studio, the change is very quite simple. The second portion of my comments are only required if you need to see the log messages that are outputted to the console.

It doesn't look any any changes to the source code have happened since Aug 23 2008 - which is unfortunate as it could use a little refresh. I don't have a link to the re-compiled version.

I have exactly the same issue as jason404: I am using Windows x64 and WMP x86. On first launch the message jason404 noted popped followed by, and on all subsequent launches:

"Windows Media Player cannot find the file. If you are trying to play, burn, or sync an item that is in your library, the item might point to a file that has been moved, renamed, or deleted."

If I extract the URL from any of the PLS, WMP plays them without issue.

The latest review is from a Windows 7 x64 user who said that this is working for him. I am using Windows x64 as well, but I cannot get .pls files to open in WMP using this. I am not using the x64 version of WMP, but the default x86 version.

The first time I ran it there was a message about needing to open a certian port in the firewall to allow AAC+ streams or something like that. I did not make a note of it, so I am not sure what I am supposed to do to get this working.

I turned the Windows software firwall off completely, but it still did not work. Do I have to forward a port from my router for incoming connections? Which one?

what happened, but after this Tuesday, it now says that "windows media player cannot play the file"... and yes im 100% sure its using the OpenPLSinWMP... i even manually reinstalled and everything... tried it on a different system even Q_Q

this program desperately needs an update...

Update 29-6-2010: Shoutcast website is changed, you need to rightclick the play button and select "open in new tab" or "open in new window" to start the stream in WMP.
