I can't get this working in Windows 7 x64

The latest review is from a Windows 7 x64 user who said that this is working for him.  I am using Windows x64 as well, but I cannot get .pls files to open in WMP using this.  I am not using the x64 version of WMP, but the default x86 version.

The first time I ran it there was a message about needing to open a certian port in the firewall to allow AAC+ streams or something like that.  I did not make a note of it, so I am not sure what I am supposed to do to get this working.

I turned the Windows software firwall off completely, but it still did not work.  Do I have to forward a port from my router for incoming connections?  Which one?

I have exactly the same issue as jason404:   I am using Windows x64 and WMP x86.  On first launch the message jason404 noted popped followed by, and on all subsequent launches:

"Windows Media Player cannot find the file. If you are trying to play, burn, or sync an item that is in your library, the item might point to a file that has been moved, renamed, or deleted."

If I extract the URL from any of the PLS, WMP plays them without issue.

I forgot about OpenPlsInWmp2 until I got this reply notification.  I have just tried installing it again, but at the moment I am using Windows Server 2008 R2 x64, with WMP x86.

This time, I got the error again:

Unable to check the stream for AAC+. Open PLS In WMP is unable to connect to this stream to check for AAC+. If the music still plays, this may mean that your firewall is preventing the program from connecting; please change your firewall settings to allow this program to access the internet if you would like AAC+ support.
---------------------------

But after that, the .pls file I tested worked fine!  Maybe because I am using a different .pls file which is formatted differently?  Could you link to the one you have had trouble with?

If that works for you, but your does not work for me, I guess there is a problem somewhere in your .pls file's formatting.

This is the one that does not: http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/pls/KDFCFM.pls

When I compare the two pls files, bluemars is an ip address while kdfcfm is a url, however when I take out one of the urls with notepad for instance: http://4553.live.streamtheworld.com:3690/KDFCFMCMP3 and load it in wmp, it plays.

This indicates to me that OpenPLS is not parsing this pls correctly for wmp. What do you think?

I don't think it because of URL vs IP address, as I have tried with some .pls files from Shoutcast.com and they play fine with URLs.

...but it does not work.  I even changed the line ending from Windows (CR+LF) to Unix (LF) as the one that worked had the Unix type, but still no luck.

As the changes I made have not done anything, the answer must lie somewhere else.  WMP still says that the file is not found.

It's a mystery :/
